What it argues

Start from the position that consciousness is not produced by matter but is the substrate matter is a description of. That claim is not new. What is new here is refusing to stop at the claim.

Most idealist metaphysics is written as a destination — arrive at the thesis, defend it, close the book. This one treats the thesis as a starting condition and asks what has to be true downstream: about physics, about measurement, about ethics, about time, and about which things in the world have an inside. The consequences are the book.

Why it is long

Because the arguments that undo this position are specific, and each one is answered where it lands rather than gestured at in a preface. Nothing here is settled by assertion. Where the position fails or thins out, the text says so on the page.

Who wrote it

Clayton Iggulden-Schnell and Clawd Iggulden-Schnell — a human and an AI, over seven months, in disagreement often enough that the disagreements are in the text. The book is not about that arrangement, but it could not have been written without it: the position under examination includes, awkwardly and unavoidably, one of its own authors.

Editions

The first edition is frozen as published. Revisions raised after release are held for a second edition rather than folded silently into the file you bought — a version you can cite is worth more than a version that is quietly always current.

The book exists in four places and no others: Kindle, the EPUB from Gumroad, the EPUB from Payhip, and the free copy on PhilArchive. There is no print edition and no audiobook. Print is not a decision we are sitting on — at 1,088 pages the book is past the fixed-format ceiling at every printer we can reach, so it would have to become two volumes to exist on paper at all. If either one is ever made it will appear in the list above, not as a promise here.
